Common Questions

What is BPM?

BPM stands for Beats Per Minute β€” the number of beats that occur in one minute. A tempo of 120 BPM means one beat every 0.5 seconds. It's the universal measure of music speed.

How does Tap Tempo work?

Tap the Tap Tempo button in rhythm with the beat of any song. The metronome averages your tap intervals to calculate BPM. Tap at least 4 times for an accurate reading. Taps reset after 2 seconds of inactivity.

What is the difference between 4/4 and 3/4 time?

4/4 (common time) has 4 beats per bar β€” used in most pop, rock, and classical music. 3/4 (waltz time) has 3 beats per bar β€” the first beat is accented. 6/8 has 6 eighth-note beats, grouped in two sets of three, giving a compound feel.

How is the click sound made?

The click is synthesised using the Web Audio API built into your browser β€” no sound files are downloaded. Beat 1 of each bar uses a higher-pitched accent click, all other beats use a softer regular click.

What BPM range does this metronome support?

This metronome supports 20 to 280 BPM β€” covering everything from very slow practice tempos to extremely fast passages. Most music falls between 60 and 200 BPM.
