Common Questions About Tabla

What is the difference between Baayan and Daayan?

The Baayan is the larger left drum producing bass sounds (Ge, Ka). The Daayan is the smaller right drum played by the dominant hand, producing treble tones (Na, Tin, Te, Ti).

What are bols?

Bols are the syllables used to represent tabla strokes — Na, Tin, Ge, Ka, Te, Ti, Dha, Dhin. Each corresponds to a specific finger or hand technique on the drum.

What is Teentaal?

Teentaal is the most common tabla cycle with 16 beats divided into 4 groups of 4. The pattern builder defaults to 16 steps, making it easy to practice Teentaal.
