How It Works

Each note is synthesised using the Web Audio API to replicate the warm, breathy ceramic tone of a real ocarina. The sound uses a fundamental sine wave with a soft second harmonic, a gentle low-pass filter to round off harsh overtones, and a short filtered noise burst at the attack to simulate the airstream entering the mouthpiece. Reverb uses a synthetic impulse response for room ambience.
